Our firm recognizes that clients are concerned about the costs of
hiring a lawyer. We believe that we have an obligation to fully
discuss with our clients all issues concerning legal fees and
costs. A client should always feel comfortable discussing fees
with us.
Although we would like to be able to set forth a list of the
legal fees charged for all the different type of legal work we
handle, we have found that it is difficult to do so for at least
two reasons. First, the wide range of legal matters we handle
would make it virtually impossible to make a comprehensive fee
list. Second, it has been our experience that every case is
unique and, accordingly, the only method that is fair to our
clients is to establish fees on an agreed, case-by-case basis.
With that said, there are certain types of cases where we have
been able to establish standard fee arrangements.
For instance, we handle most personal injury cases on a
contingency fee basis. A contingency fee is one where the
attorney's fee is based upon a percentage (usually one-third) of
the amount the attorney is able to recover on your behalf. In
other words, if we are successful in your case, our fee is
one-third of what we have won for you. If we are unsuccessful in
your case, we ask only that the client reimburse us for expenses
we have actually paid, but we receive no fee. The contingency
fee arrangement is a pure incentive system where you can be sure
your attorney is doing everything in his or her power to
maximize the recovery in your case!
Other cases may be handled on an hourly basis. You are charged
only for the time we spend working on your case. Examples of
cases we have handled on an hourly basis include Commercial
Litigation, Contract Negotiation & Drafting, etc. When working
on an hourly basis, we try to provide you in advance with our
best estimate of the time that will be necessary to handle your
case and to keep you apprised of your bill as the work
progresses.
There are also certain types of cases where we may charge a flat
fee. Examples include Bankruptcy, Criminal Defense and
Immigrations.
We encourage you to freely discuss fees with us at the time of
your consultation. Once we know some of the facts of your case
we can fully discuss fee arrangements and arrive at a fair
agreement as to how your case will be handled.
The bottom line is that
we want you to know that you received excellent legal
services
for a fair price!
